Itinerary

The Lemosho trekking routes offer climbers access to Uhuru Peak (Mount Kilimanjaro Summit). One option is the Lemosho Glades Route, the longest route ascending to the Shira Plateau. Along the Lemosho route, climbers have the opportunity to encounter some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife, with the first day of climbing even requiring the presence of an armed ranger for safety.

Lemosho presents a perfect combination of fewer climbers, stunning vistas, and a high success rate in reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Climbers are advised to complete this route within eight days or longer for optimal acclimatization and enjoyment of the trek.

DAY1: Arrival

Upon arrival, you will be greeted at Kilimanjaro International Airport and escorted to Moshi, the renowned gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro. Once settled at your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha city, you will receive comprehensive trekking briefings from your mountain guide, preparing you for the upcoming journey to the summit of Africa's highest peak.
Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa

Covering a distance of 6 kilometers or 4 miles, our journey begins at an elevation of 7,742 feet, ascending to 9,498 feet throughout 3 to 4 hours through the lush rainforest habitat. Departing from Moshi, we go to Londorossi Gate, a journey of approximately 4 hours, where official registration and briefings are conducted. Following this, we embark on a drive to the Lemosho trailhead. Upon reaching the trailhead, our trek leads us through a pristine natural forest, meandering towards our first campsite, Mti Mkubwa. Immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of the surroundings as we commence this unforgettable adventure.
DAY 3: Ascend from Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

Covering a distance of 8 kilometers or 5 miles, our journey ascends from an elevation of 9,498 feet to 11,500 feet throughout 5 to 6 hours, traversing through the heath habitat. Continuing along the trail, we transition from the dense rainforest to a savannah characterized by tall grasses, with heather and volcanic rock adorned with lichen beards. Amidst the lush rolling hills and crossing several streams, we eventually reach Shira Ridge, offering a captivating view of Kibo across the plateau, before descending gently to our resting place at Shira 1 Camp. Embrace the beauty of the landscape as we progress on this remarkable trek.
DAY 4: Ascend from Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

Our journey covers 11 kilometers or 7 miles and begins at 11,500 feet, ascending to 13,800 feet over 5 to 7 hours through the heath habitat. We will spend the day exploring the vast expanse of the Shira Plateau, embarking on a gentle and less demanding walk through moorland meadows towards Shira 2 Camp. Along the way, we will diverge from the main trail to reach Moir Hut, a seldom-used site at Lent Hills's base. The Lent Hills offer various walking opportunities in their scenic surroundings, providing an ideal chance for climbers to acclimatize to the altitude. Known as the highest plateau on earth, the Shira Plateau boasts unparalleled beauty and a captivating backdrop for our trekking adventure.
DAY 5: Moir Hut to Lava Tower

Covering a distance of 7 kilometers or 4 miles, our trek commences at an elevation of 13,800 feet and ascends to 15,190 feet throughout 4 to 5 hours through the Alpine Desert habitat. Our path leads us to Lava Tower, a striking volcanic rock formation standing 300 feet before we descend toward Barranco Camp. The route takes us eastward along a ridge and then southeast, offering captivating views as we traverse through the unique and mesmerizing Senecio Forest, ultimately reaching an altitude of 13,000 feet. Although the elevation remains the same at the beginning and end of the day, the time spent at higher altitudes is a valuable opportunity for acclimatization, preparing us for the challenges ahead on our trek.
DAY 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Covering a distance of 5 kilometers or 3 miles, our day begins with a descent into a ravine leading to the base of the Great Barranco Wall. We then hike up the steep, non-technical cliff, ascending nearly 900 feet. Traversing the Barranco Wall's highest point, we navigate various hills and valleys until we reach Karanga Valley, which is descending sharply. Finally, with a single steep climb, we arrive at Karanga Camp. This day's shorter journey facilitates acclimatization to the altitude, ensuring our readiness for the challenges ahead on our trek.
DAY 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Covering a distance of 4 kilometers or 2 miles, our journey begins as we depart from Karanga and head towards the junction connecting with the Mweka Trail. Ascending through a rocky section, we will eventually reach Barafu Hut. Upon arrival, you will have completed the Southern Circuit, affording breathtaking views of the Kilimanjaro summit from various perspectives. We will set up camp at Barafu Camp, allowing time for rest and an early dinner as we prepare for the upcoming summit day. Positioned at Barafu camp, you'll be treated to a remarkable vista of Mawenzi and Kibo, the two majestic peaks of Kilimanjaro, providing ample inspiration for the summit ascent.
DAY 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak

Covering a distance of 5 kilometers or 3 miles, our journey begins as we ascend from an elevation of 15,331 feet to the towering peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, reaching an impressive height of 19,341 feet. Commencing around midnight, this leg of the trek is the most challenging, both mentally and physically, as we navigate extreme wind and cold. Ascending in darkness for several hours, we'll make occasional short breaks. Approaching Stella Point at 18,900 feet, we'll be greeted by the spectacular sight of the sunrise casting its golden glow over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, our efforts will culminate as we reach Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, offering unparalleled views of Africa's vast plains sprawling below.
DAY 8: Descend from Uhuru Peak

After reveling in the magnificence of Uhuru Peak, we'll begin our descent towards the Mweka Hut campsite, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The rocky terrain may challenge the knees, but trekking poles can provide valuable support. Nestled in the upper forest, the Mweka Camp may experience mist or rain in the late afternoon. As dusk settles, we'll gather for our final meal on the mountain, sharing stories and reflecting on our remarkable achievements. With a sense of fulfillment, we'll retire for a well-deserved rest, marking the conclusion of our unforgettable journey on Mount Kilimanjaro.
DAY 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Descend

On the final day, we will travel 10 kilometers or 6 miles, descending from 10,065 feet to 5,380 feet. With 3 to 4 hours of hiking, we'll traverse through the lush rainforest habitat, where the trails may be damp and muddy at this lower elevation. Arriving at Mweka Gate, we'll receive our well-deserved certificates of success for summiting Mount Kilimanjaro. From there, we'll continue for an additional hour to Mweka Village, where vehicles await to transfer us back to our base hotel in Moshi. This marks the conclusion of our memorable adventure on Africa's highest peak.

  Best driver you can get
My experience with King Solomon was great! He organized the whole trip, so that I don't had to worry about anything. With a massive and outstanding knowledge about the animals and wildness he drove me through the parks. Especially in the Serengeti he managed the impossible: He found baby cheetahs! I saw the big five (okay, rhinos a bit far away), but about thirty to forty lions, a bunch of leopards and cheetahs and of course a lot of more common animals. With all he was very flexible and able to take my wishes into the plans. I can highly recommend the tour with Tangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Also a walking safari was included and very informative and nice. If you are looking for a driver and unsure where your money is well invested: here. I can highly recommend him.

  Best driver and Guide ever
King Solomon is the king of the Safari for sure but also the best driver ! You feel confortable being almost all day in the car. He is very good to spot the animals and he will do his best to not miss any. Everything was well organized, the food is great. In our last day in Arusha our flight was delayed and he took care of us showing us around before dropping us at the airport. salut à tous, je viens de france et je ne connaissais pas kingsalomon s'est en cherchant sur le Web que je suis tombé sur sa page , tout de suite le contenu et les commentaires nous ont facilité dans notre choix.Puis nous avons pris en contact avec salomon et le courant est bien passé, il nous a fait un prix raisonnable pour une famille de 5.Ensuite lorsque nous avons été en tanzanie nous avons eut des souci de vol , salomon et venu nous chercher malgré 5h de retard pour nous déposé à notre hôtel. Concernant le safari,ce fut magnifique nous en avons pris plein les yeux, car en plus de la visite du parc nous avions un guide qui parlais français plus simple pour les explications.De plus salomon nous a mis dans des lodges sans rien rajouter car à la base nous devions dormir dans des tentes, merci à vous salomon. Hey, I’m Hen from Israel and I was looking a lot for a tour guy that will be good and that I can trust him. I found king Solomon after a friend’s recommendation and I booked him. I found out that he’s the best tour guy I could have asked for, he’s very nice very responsible and the most important he’s the most professional tour guy there’s, he can find everything and everywhere, never get lost and always takes care for us. I’m glad I made this decision and for sure highly recommending about him. If you are looking for the best safari experience King Solomon is the guy! I’ll start by saying, if you think about him, choose him! Solomon is the best driver we could have found and the best tour guy in Tanzania! He knows everything about everywhere and every animal, he will do anything to find you all the best location and rare animals, he can find animals hiding in the bushes with his bare eyes where I barely could’ve found them with the binuclear And the most important he knows every route and never get lost (which some other tour guys are getting lost sometimes).   Such good company. Felt like we had the most knowledgeable guide
We spent 6 days with King Solomon, who was friendly and good company. It’s clear that he is well connected with the parks and other guides which meant that he often knew what had been seen recently and where. His knowledge of the parks is fantastic and he has a super-human eye for spotting things you otherwise would miss. We had a great time and found King Solomon to be really funny and knowledgable. Solomon was excellent at spotting animals that weren't visible to the naked eye. He found a black and white colobus money high us in the trees and a Jaguar. Solomon is a great guide with lots of stories to tell. He is extremely knowledgeable and has had over a decade years of experience. I highly recommend booking through Solomon as his attention to detail will ensure your trip is a cut above the rest. Meals were provided on the trip in hampers every day for the 3 days that we went which was excellent. There were also facilities around the park to occasionally stop for a toilet break. Overall I will be coming back to Tanzania and booking through Solomon again. He also offers hot air balloon rides over the Serengeti which I am keen to do next time.

  Amazing safari!
Solomon is a great, professional safari guide who knows exactly when and where to go to give you the best possible safari experience. Moreover he's a very good driver, with whom you feel safe, and a super friendly person. We had great time and we saw a lot of animals thanks to Solomon's "eagle eye" and big experience. The whole safari was very well organized, we didn't need to worry about anything from the moment when Solomon picked us up at the airport in Kilimanjaro to the moment when he left us at the Seronera Airstrip 5 days later. I enjoyed every minute of it. The hotels, which he chose for us, were amazing (one in a coffee plantation and the other one in the middle of Serengeti - wow!). The food that he provided us with was very good and more than we could eat. Overall the whole experience was awesome and worth every penny!
